The NTT sounds *awfully* Prokofievian to me. (Neoclassical cadence, string counterpoint, certain harmonies.) Next best guesses would be Shostakovich and Honegger.
Regarding the John Adams article....while I’m fairly decently acquainted with his work (Classical Gabfesters with a long memory will recall I submitted some Adams for a NTT during the CGF podcast era), a quick survey of his works on scholarly journal wikipedia shows I know almost nothing post-2000. The one exception is Scheherazade.2, which I heard performed in Chicago in 2017. I can’t remember a thing about it, which should indicate the impact it had on me.
