NTT: Joey's clue has me racking my brain in despair, because I'm struggling to think of which composers died in the past 3-4 years and coming up blank. That's sad!

It's a spiky little clarinet sonata thing, quasi-neoclassical. I'm guessing European, but even that's a shot in the dark.

György Kurtag? Rodion Shchedrin? (is he still alive??)

Love that you exist! I had to delete my Slipped Disc bookmark a couple months ago — just too much bile baked into every post. Looking forward to seeing your site develop and grow!

Will, thanks for the introduction to Panufnik! I've listened to the first three symphonies and his Nocturne. I've heard his name, too, but had never explored his music. I had no idea!

NTT: The only composers I can think of who died recently are Morricone, Sondheim, and Saariaho.

Morricone is known mostly for films, but I'll put him in as a dark horse for this one.

Sondheim is known for musicals mostly, but if this was his, I'm sure Will would have been all over that one.

So I'll venture my main guess for Saariaho, whose name constantly shows up in lists (including in Tone Prose last week). I'm not familiar with her work, but a few things I've heard strike me as spiky enough to perhaps have composed this piece.
